Model D Personal Computer Brochure

During Leading Edge's Model D era, the company issued several informational brochures that were available to customers. These brochures were available from dealer locations where a customer could consider their options. The Model D brochures were printed in vibrant color, which basic marketing theory indicates increases potential customer action, and was chock full of technical specifications, possible addons or configurations, and a small back−story to the design philosophy behind the Model D. This particular Model D brochure was titled, "The Leading Edge Model "D" Personal Computer".

The brochure, when fully opened, measured 17" by 14.5" and 3.5" by 8.5" when completely folded up and of course included the standard red, white, and blue theme based upon the triple triangle logo. This particular brochure made sure to convey the five standard Model D configurations available such as a single floppy drive and monochrome monitor, the most economical Model D configuration available. The brochure described that the goal of designing the Model D was to present a complete PC system ready to compute all that a PC should right out of the box.

Given that the Model D was released in the early 1980s, the brochure indicated that it was completely IBM compatible, which of course was very important to most businesses and individuals who wanted an easy way of procuring and running available software by simply checking for the silver IBM compatibility sticker placed on most IBM compatible software.

Leading Edge took extra effort to impress upon prospective customers that the Model D was a much smaller computer than a lot of IBM PC compatibles at the time, taking up 28% less desktop space than an equivalent IBM 5150.
