LEPC Model D Diagnostics
The LEPC Model D Diagnostics disk contained software that assisted users in inspecting their machines and aided in attempting to diagnose issues that the user was experiencing or even help to avoid future problems. The disk was available to the user as bundled software when the computer was purchased and could be used at any time. The software ran a quick inspection of the machine and asked the user verify their system's specifications and proceed with the process if the program was displaying correct system information.
The LEPC Model D Diagnostics software was contained on one 5.25" 360K disk. The disk's label was white with red and blue text with the Leading Edge triple triangle logo in the center. The label included a minty green border and included some horizontal lines for a sort of 1980s louvered look to each side. At the top left of the label in red bold all−caps text was "Diagnostics" with "LEPC Model D" directly below in smaller font but in blue. On the right side of the label was a slew of copyright information in small blue and red text. The disk was kept safe within a custom Leading edge floppy disk sleeve which was greatly styled with a pattern of light brown triangle outlines with the Leading Edge logo in the center and bold "Leading Edge" text at the very bottom, all kept with a thin blue border line box.
The LEPC Model D Diagnostics disk contained an autoexec, making the disk bootable incase the user's hard drive suffered a failure, it was easy to start the program without having to boot off of a bootable DOS floppy disk, the main diagnostics program − which had an entire suite of diagnostics tests that the user could run, and a fixed disk parking program that would park the computer's hard drive if the user needed to move the computer to another location. After loading the software, the user was presented with a hardware profile of their computer detected by the program, asking that the user confirm that the profile is correct before proceeding onto the menu of test articles. The hardware profiler screen displayed information including but not limited to: the CPU type, hard drive information, and video type. Once the user was past the information screen, a main menu was shown. Tests could be run by the user by selecting the corresponding function key as indicated on the menu or press Esc to terminate the program and return to DOS. Please see the photographs for sample tests as run on a Model D with an XTIDE hard drive solution, or download and try it yourself.
