Leading Edge Microsoft Multiplan Manual
The Leading Edge branded Microsoft Multiplan was an early spreadsheet program designed for personal and professional productivity for data analytics. Here you will find a full scan PDF of the software's manual for download and some various photos of the packaging.
The software was packed with a hefty three−ring binder style manual. This manual, in addition to the software disk, was housed within a sturdy fabric cardboard sleeve that was white in color and measured 8" long, 2.25" wide, and 9.25" high. The cardboard sleeve featured a prominent Leading Edge logo in the center on one side with "LEADING EDGE" in gray all−caps at the top and "PERSONAL COMPUTER" at the bottom. At the center of the edge of the sleeve where the binder enters and exits are two half−circle cutouts to make gripping and removing the binder easy. On the backside of the sleeve, which would be facing out when shelved, was a Leading Edge logo with "LEADING EDGE" directly below, and towards the bottom "LEADING EDGE" appears again but underlined and with "PERSONAL COMPUTER" directly below it.
The three−ring binder, which measured 8" long, 2" wide, and 9" high featured an identical appearance to that of its sleeve save for the half−circle cutouts and some trimmed corners for added durability. Upon opening the fabric covered binder, the user would find a loose−leaf manual of 486, three−hold punched pages. Each page was double sided with relevant text and graphics. The manual included a comprehensive table of contents for easy navigation, five appendices of 56 additional pages, and a comprehensive index for quick narrowing down of required subject matter.
At the end of the 486 page manual lies the software disk nestled in its paper sleeve which itself was contained in a plastic pocket insert which could have accommodated up to three disks. This version only contained one disk so the remaining pockets of the plastic insert remained empty.
