computers 386SX 9100/20 Notebook The Leading Edge 386sx notebook is a laptop manufactured by Leading Edge Products. This handsome machine was offered in a typical for the time white case sporting the iconic Leading Edge logo to the lower left. Unfortunately, the designer did not keep in mind that when the lid is open, then the logo is upside down. The physical dimensions of the laptop are 12" wide, 10.5" long, 2.25" thick. The laptop features a low power 386sx processor and came standard with 1mb of RAM, upgradeable to 4mb, a choice of 20, 30, or 60mb HDD, and an available 387 co‐processor socket.More… Model D The Leading Edge Model D, released in 1985, was the most ubiquitous of the Leading Edge lineup. This model was the first computer offered by Leading Edge. Given the Model “D" designation, this indicated that the interior hardware was manufactured by South Korean manufacturer Daewoo. The Model D was an XT budget alternative to IBM's offering in the early 1980's. As a result of its affordability, sales for the Model D were in excess of 100,000 units through its first year and sales were strong until its discontinuation in 1989.More… Model D2 Plus The Leading Edge Model D2 Plus, like the Model D2 before it, came equipped with an Intel 286 processor which could be selected using the keyboard to run at 8 or 12 MHz. The D2 Plus is a facelifted model which has a much‐needed physical revision and replaced the 720K 3.5" disk drive with a 1.44 MB 3.5" drive but retains the 5.25" 1.2MB drive. The computer could be configured with an optional hard disk drive with a BIOS supporting multiple IBM compatible drives, optional VGA card, a user upgradable 287 math co‐processor socket, and up to 4 MB of RAM with 1 MB being standard. Pack‐in software included MS‐DOS 5.0, GW‐BASIC, and mouse support software for the included Z‐NIX Inc mouse.More… Model D86 The Model D−86 was a desktop computer offered by Leading Edge Products starting in 1985. It was a computer with a smaller stature than its predecessor and presented users with more modern amenities and hardware. The D−86, like the name implies, came equipped with an 8086 processor. The 8086 processor offered users a 16−bit data bus, memory upgradeable to one megabyte, and an 10MHz clock speed. Styling was significantly different from the Model D with a much shorter case and facelifted front. More… Model M No, this wasn't an IBM keyboard. The Leading Edge Model M computer was an 8088‐based computer offered by Leading Edge alongside of the Model D. The "M" designation of the computer indicated that the interior hardware was manufactured by Mitsubishi. Leading Edge famously switched to the South Korean manufacturer, Daewoo, with the Model D. Much confusion existed during the Model M's time as customers expecting to find the Model D would sometimes find the Model M in stores and confused customers asking for an explanation of the differences would receive muddied replies from salesmen. Let's clear the air once and for all. The computer featured an all steel case with a plastic front trim for a more pleasing aesthetic. The more powerful 386DX processer allowed the machine to support greater amounts of RAM than Leading Edge's 386SX computers. Like so many Leading Edge product offerings, the Model MT33 was equipped with non−standard hardware configurations.More…
