PS/2 Mouse
A peripheral that was often bundled with many of the later computer offerings from Leading Edge was a two‐button PS/2 mouses. The PS/2 mouse did not have an official Leading Edge product name, though the mouse had the typical Leading Edge branding for the early 1990s prominently emblazoned near the middle. On the underside of the mouse, the label indicated its name as just "PS/2 Mouse". Looking up the FCC ID of IOW CM‐Z8, LeadingEdgeComputers.com was able to ascertain additional information about the mouse.
The FCC ID was registered on March 26, 1991 by Chic Technology Corporation of Taiwan as a Class B computing device peripheral. A class B device must comply with stricter radiated and conducted emissions limits compared to Class A devices, as they are intended for use in homes where interference with radio, TV, or other consumer electronics is a concern. It's difficult to find information about Chic Technology, but according to FCC registration records, their first filing occurred in August of 1990 and the last filing was in August of 2006. It reasonable to assume that they went defunct or were otherwise acquired, or simply stopped supplying devices in the US market.
The mouse had a classic beige−box complementary design, owing to its simple curved design and injection molded beige plastic housing. The Leading Edge PS/2 mouse utilized a mechanical ball system for cursor tracking and at the front of the mouse were two standard buttons that were extremely common until the center scroll wheel showed up in the late 1990s. As the name suggests, the mouse utilized a PS/2 interface which ruled as the industry standards throughout the 1990s until ultimately being superseded by USB.
